Introducing Rev Dr Hani Hanna as the new Langham Literature Director

Dr Hani Hanna, the new Langham Literature Director.

Langham Partnership is delighted to announce the appointment of Rev. Dr Hani Hanna as the International Program Director for Langham Literature. Hani joins us from his position as President of the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo (ETSC), bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise in modern theology.

As a Langham Scholar himself, Dr Hanna possesses a deep understanding of the importance of theological literature in equipping leaders for the global Church. Following attaining a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Minya University, he earned a Bachelor of Theology from ETSC.

Furthering his theological education, he attained a Master of Sacred Theology in systematic theology from Yale University and then a Doctor of Philosophy in systematic theology from Princeton Theological Seminary.

Connecting faith and culture

His academic specialisation is in modern theology, particularly exploring the shape of orthodoxy in the face of modernity, ecumenical theology, and the interaction between faith and culture. Hani is also an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church of Egypt.

Pieter Kwant on Langham Live
Pieter Kwant retired as Langham Literature Director last year. Watch a Langham Live interview with him from October 2022.

Hani believes deeply in the strategic role of contextual-theological literature. He understands that by connecting faith and culture, we can effectively proclaim the gospel and serve the Kingdom of God in today’s world. His vision encompasses a rich and diverse variety of theological literature, reflecting the cultural tapestry of the global Church.

LP International Council Chair Jill McGilvray said, “Hani is a man of clearly evident godliness, enormous warmth and gifted strategic vision. He is a Langham Scholar and a long-time friend of Langham Partnership. He has spent many years in Executive roles with ETSC, most recently as President where he has been respected for his theology, admired for his teaching, and loved for his pastoral heart.

“I have no doubt whatsoever that Hani will soon become a much-valued and loved member of the Langham Partnership International family.”

Please pray

Hani was born to a Presbyterian family in Minya, Egypt. He is married to Lucy and they have a daughter (Selma) and a son (Youssef). Hani lives and will work from his home city of Cairo, with frequent trips to the Langham Service Centre in Carlisle, UK.

As Hani assumes his role as the International Program Director for Langham Literature in July 2023, please pray for him and for everyone working alongside him. Please also thank God for the work of previous Director, Pieter Kwant. Watch an interview with him about his journey with Langham Literature and how the programme has grown.

Join us as we warmly welcome Hani and look forward to the future work of Langham Literature under his leadership.
