{"id":5730,"date":"2019-04-17T09:38:28","date_gmt":"2019-04-17T09:38:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hk.langham.org\/hausa-edition-of-africa-bible-commentary-published\/"},"modified":"2024-06-05T08:32:17","modified_gmt":"2024-06-05T08:32:17","slug":"hausa-edition-of-africa-bible-commentary-published","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hk.langham.org\/en_us\/news-and-updates\/hausa-edition-of-africa-bible-commentary-published\/","title":{"rendered":"Hausa edition of Africa Bible Commentary published"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>The Hausa translation of the hugely influential Africa Bible Commentary has finally been published, over seven years after work began on the project.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\">\r\n<div id=\"attachment_9009\" style=\"width: 190px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9009\" class=\"wp-image-9009\" src=\"http:\/\/hk.langham.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/04\/Hausa-Africa-Bible-Commentary.png\" alt=\"Hausa Africa Bible Commentary\" width=\"180\" height=\"226\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-9009\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><sub>Thousands of copies of the Hausa Africa Bible Commentary have been printed.<\/sub><\/p><\/div>\r\n<figcaption><\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This Hausa version is called\u00a0&#8216;Sharhin Littafi Mai Tsarki Don Afirka&#8217;, and is over 200 pages longer than the original English. The commentary has been published by <a href=\"http:\/\/actsnigeria.org\">Africa Christian Textbooks<\/a> (ACTS) in Nigeria. They plan to distribute copies there and into Niger.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Many have been praying that the shipment of copies would arrive safely from China. Presidential elections in February in Nigeria caused security concerns for Christians.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Security threat<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This resource is aimed particularly for Hausa speaking believers in the north of the country, where the security threat is greatest.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In January, 400 advance copies were flown to Jos, which\u00a0have already been distributed to pre-ordered customers (see ACTS Managing Director Luka Vandi holding a copy). The bulk of the copies (over 4,000) are expected to arrive on 23 April.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<div id=\"attachment_9008\" style=\"width: 227px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9008\" class=\"wp-image-9008\" src=\"http:\/\/hk.langham.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/04\/Hausa-Africa-Bible-Commentary-Luka-Vandi-Uti-and-Pamela-Guiya-Pamela.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"217\" height=\"217\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-9008\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><sub>Managing Director of ACTS Nigeria, Luka Vandi, with missionary Pamela Gaiya.<\/sub><\/p><\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The Hausa language is spoken by\u00a0around 40-50 million people in West and Central Africa. So this translation of the Africa Bible Commentary (ABC) could be a tremendous resource.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sparked other commentaries<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The original ABC was published in 2006 and includes contributions from 70 African Scholars. It sparked several other one-volume commentaries for different regions of the world.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Since 2006, over 200,000 copies have been printed and it has been widely used by preachers, leaders and Bible colleges across Africa and around the world.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div id=\"attachment_3133\" style=\"width: 230px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3133\" class=\"wp-image-3133\" src=\"https:\/\/uk.langham.org\/files\/2013\/03\/SPCKA.jpg\" alt=\"SPCKA\" width=\"220\" height=\"144\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3133\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><sub>Australian missionary John Morshead presents Edgar with his Africa Bible Commentary.<\/sub><\/p><\/div>\r\n<p>One <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.langham.org\/how-one-book-makes-a-difference\/\">example<\/a> of the ABC\u2019s impact involves a seminary graduate in Tanzania, who could barely afford food. But Edgar Pillar was beaming when he received his copy of the ABC. He said: \u201cI will never own a personal library, but this one book will help me to teach and preach and to answer questions about the Bible.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Smile on every pastor\u2019s face<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Dr Aiah Foday-Khabenje, General Secretary of the Association of Evangelicals in Africa, said last year:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cThe Africa Bible Commentary is one of the most important theological resources for the church in Africa\u2026\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\">\r\n<div id=\"attachment_8070\" style=\"width: 173px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8070\" class=\"wp-image-8070\" src=\"http:\/\/hk.langham.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/04\/Zimbabwe-3-Africa-Bible-Commentary-worn-e1521205809342-683x1024-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"163\" height=\"244\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-8070\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><sub>A well-used copy of the Africa Bible Commentary in a Bible College library in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.<\/sub><\/p><\/div>\r\n<figcaption><\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve seen a smile on every pastor\u2019s face that has owned the Africa Bible Commentary and it has become the greatest resource beyond anything they have ever had, apart from the Bible itself.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Please pray<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The Amharic translation of the ABC, for believers in Ethiopia, is due to be published later this year. It has already been translated into six languages.
